Zero Failure Management at Maximum Productivity in Safety Critical Control Room

Predicted growth in air traffic and demand for increased safety, predictability, and efficiency impose additional demands on Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems. Different technologies are currently under development to address these demands. However, one area continues to leave significant room for improvement: productivity in the control room. This paper proposes improvement of control room productivity by applying productivity improvement methods and techniques and validating them in the context of a tower control room. We describe our approach, the challenges it poses, and our plans for validation. We believe that this approach could be useful for improving different ATM processes and could provide useful input for the development of automated tools used in control rooms.
