Decentralized Fuzzy-Based Voltage Control for LV Distribution Systems

With the inclusion of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) components into the lowvoltage (LV) distribution grid, some measurement data from smart meters are available for the control of the distribution networks with high penetration of photovoltaic systems (PV). This paper undertakes a decentralized voltage-control strategy for smart LV distribution networks, by using a Fuzzy Control in combination with the information collected from smart meters as source of information of the status of the system. Comparison studies for a smart LV distribution system to validate the method are presented, showing the robustness of proposed method compared with the traditional local approaches. To illustrate the applicability of the proposed method, a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) for smart distribution power grids is used. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the proposed method could simultaneously mitigate the high PV penetration, as well as minimize the voltage rise and power losses.
